I was really looking forward to this, but how do I view this? But why is this show not in a default video format which we can either just download and watch or have it stream through the web? I'm a mac user, so I have to load up Parallels and then download this executable. I run it, and then try to watch the wmv but it tells me I need a specific codec. You've got to be kidding me. So I search for it and can't find it (the codec). So now I've just given up. Please don't take this criticism as harsh, but by making this more accessible is a good thing. We want to see what you have to show us... so anyway that you can make that easier would be greatly appreciated.

Eric, can you drop us an email (maeick at hotmail.com)? I must confess that I don't know what format's a Mac can even play!

I've been waiting for this, and love what I've seen today. The site looks gorgeous, and the first video is fun and friendly. A bit short on facts (it's more a teaser of what's to come, I suppose) but still a good start. Especially love that the video is 16:9 format - well done! Can't wait for the second instalment!

Eric, I'm not too fluent with Mac usage, but I believe you can use StuffIt or WinRAR to decompress this EXE. It's just a self extracting archive.

Liam,

Yeah, you can call it a teaser. We won't lie, we're new to this. And this was kind of a warm up for us too. The next show we're REALLY gonna dive in and get our hands dirty.

Hi,

Looking forward to seeing the tutorials you put on the site. I too have to say I think distributing it as an .exe is a bit strange. I would suggest just using a normal movie type like .wmv. If you want it compressed then zip it up, but realistically, compressing already optomized video doesn't do that much.

Also, what's the story with the shrinkster links? Why not just link directly, that's a bit strange.

Apart from that though guys - good luck with it. Looking forward to seeing what else comes up.

thanks

"Eric, I'm not too fluent with Mac usage, but I believe you can use StuffIt or WinRAR to decompress this EXE. It's just a self extracting archive."

I tried this and get the following message from Stuffit

'The file "revoluxions001.exe" does not appear to be compressed or encoded. It is advised that you obtain further infromation about the contents of ths file from the sender or provider of the file.'

Why you would you want people to use this process (even if it did work)? Accessable means we hit the page, and it plays.

It would but much more accessable if you had an online version in Flash or even upload a version to YouTube or something. Alternatively if you didn't use Flash you could provide a WMV, MOV to cover both bases.

Hi Everyone,

Please bear with us for a few more days. We're preparing a WPF/E based online viewer where you can watch the stream.

In the meantime, you can download the WMV file directly from: http://shrinkster.com/lqz
I would request that you download from this url only if the EXE doesn't work. (Bandwidth thing.)

All our future shows will be WMV and will have an online stream viewer made with WPF/E that will enable even Mac users to play the video without requirin any codecs.

Kevin, we're using Shrinkster because it makes links easy to remember, and helps us track link usage.

Anyways, thanks everyone for your feedback. This is our first go and we appreciate your patience as we work things out.

Thanks,
Dax

Great start to a series. The 'designer & developer' POVs allow great questions, interaction. SHOWING what to click in the panel-laden UI and the effects is better than reading many explanatory paragraphs (watching dax rotate the angle for a gradient, for example).

I'd suggest you narrate a bit more of what you are doing in the UI, if it isn't obvious (example: what brought up the Data Binding dialog for the ListBox?).

This is a terrific series, from the 2 shows I've seen so far. Keep it fresh and spontaneous instead of written out and read from a script. You guys have quick minds and it keeps the show alive and amusing while the central lesson for the podcast is developed.

Thumbs up.
